The Buga Sphere Conference, June 20, 2025

A few weeks ago I was invited to attend a press conference where the Buga Sphere was displayed at Maussan Television headquarters in Mexico City.  The “Buga Sphere” is a silver ball that was filmed flying before it fell to Earth near Buga, Colombia, in March of 2025.

Maussan TV has an incredible set-up in Santa Fe Gardens (CDMX) with 5 state-of-the-art television studios, social media, editors, producers, a cafeteria, etc. The channel is the newest over-the-air TV station in Mexico and is viewable by the majority of Mexico as free TV, on channel  3.3. It features programs on health and wellness, environmental concerns, current events, and of course, UFOs. You can watch it live on Youtube. Maussan TV

Buga Sphere Conference June, 2025. Mexico City

If you’re not familiar with Jaime Maussan, he’s been a staple on Mexican TV for over 50 years. He was the head of “60 Minutes” Mexico, and has reported for various other news programs on Network TV. He has also hosted many of his own programs over the years. One of the topics he often reports on is the UFO (or UAP) phenomenon.

For a UFO reporter, Mexico, and frankly all of Latin America, is a goldmine for almost daily new videos of balls, lights, or crafts hovering in the skies. When a video is accompanied by physical evidence? Well, that is NEWS in the UFO community. And so it is with the Buga sphere. The silver sphere has been said to demonstrate very strange capabilities: flying, changing weight, emitting a frequency, boiling water that is poured on it.  A video was taken of the sphere making improbable movements in the sky, until it landed on a hillside. It was then recovered by a gentleman who knew exactly who to call when you find a crashed UFO. And that is how the sphere ended up in Mexico City on display for a US Congressman and a “who’s who” of the UFO community. Authors, researchers, directors, producers, lawyers, and podcasters were in attendance to see in person what has been named the “Buga Sphere.”

Very eclectic group. This is 100s of years’ worth of UFO studies in this photo.

It’s not every day you are invited to see a purported crashed UFO in person, so when Mr. Maussan extended the invite, I got my court docket covered for Friday and headed down. I was intrigued by the story of the Buga Sphere and thought it would be interesting to see it for myself. Just as I was by the story of the tridactyl mummies that served as my introduction to Jaime Maussan.

To be clear, I do not have preconceived notions about whether the ball is of extraterrestrial origin, nor do I claim it to be anything. I am certainly not qualified to do either. I went to the press conference as an open-minded observer. As I said, it’s not often that you get a chance to view something like this in person.  I understand it is common to have confirmation bias when seeing something strange. I also know it’s human nature to attempt to fit the unknown into our belief system. We all approach things with our biases, background, and beliefs intact, and that colors how we view things.  Personally, I don’t have a UFO background, but even at my age, I am still curious to learn from everyone, whether their thoughts/beliefs fit with my worldview or not.

For example, I heard stories from attendees that believed it to be of “Pleiadian origin,” or a drone from one of the benevolent extraterrestrials observing earthlings. And what do I know about those things? You tell me there is a flying ball that crashed to Earth with video? Yes, sir. I’d love to see that (and form my own opinion).  This past year, I have seen some really unique things. I’ve only really blogged about a couple of them so far. Tangible things that frankly don’t make sense. I’ll add the Buga sphere to that list.

The Buga Sphere certainly has an odd backstory. A big silver ball flying in the sky is quite unusual. One that witnesses saw crash land, and was actually recovered? Even rarer.

Most of the stories we hear that start this way end with the U.S. Government (or other unknown group) coming quickly to confiscate the downed craft. And we’re left with that: eyewitness accounts. Roswell, Trinity, Kecksburg, and Varginha are all variations on this theme.

This case is different: there is video, eyewitnesses, and physical evidence. In a court case, that is a great start. Now, if this were a simple drone or plane crash, with a prosaic explanation, there would be plenty of evidence in a court of law for a finder of fact to reach a verdict. However, because of the unique circumstances, I think it’s fair to set the standard of proof a lot higher before we declare the sphere to be otherworldly.

Markings on the Buga Sphere

My Experience

The sphere is a little bigger than a bowling ball, and is heavier than I expected, at about 20 lbs (I was told a little over 9 kilos). It doesn’t look like advanced tech, or what I would expect advanced tech to look like. It has seen quite a bit of wear and has scratches and little pockmarks all over the surface. The etchings are crude and appear to be free-handed. The ball was also very cold to touch. (Yes, metal is commonly cold, but it felt quite a bit cooler than I expected it to.) The “circuit” or chip area has copper-colored terminals that appear to be added to the sphere as individual pieces, not integral to the rest of the sphere.

The etchings are only on one hemisphere of the ball. The ball has small holes evenly spaced around the equator. The holes do not go into the center of the ball, but to a second layer that is relatively shallow. Investigators studying the sphere believe they have located fiberoptics in the holes. A magnifying instrument was placed over the holes to give me a closer look inside the holes.

Hopefully, additional scientific analysis will give us further insight into its origin. I did review the metallurgical reports that indicate the ball is mostly comprised of aluminum with a small percentage of silicon, zinc and other metals.

At 72 years old, Jaime Maussan has witnessed a LOT of strange things in his day. He has seen enough in his years covering frontier topics to convince him that the search and publication of the anomalous is a worthy endeavor. He only has to be right one time to change history.
